When Brent, my now husband, moved into my small apartment he brought everything. Including his dozens of old coffee cans filled with pennies he had collected as a child. I am not kidding when I say dozens! They took up the entire floor of my closet, I would often stub my toe on the cans. I would get so irritated begging him to cash them in. "No!" he would snap "I am saving them for something". What in the world is he going to buy with a pile of pennies I thought. Four years and one apartment later he took all those coffee cans out to his car. I asked "What are you doing?" He said he was going to move them to our storage space, that he finally agrees that it takes up too much space. Hooray!

Two weeks later we drove up to MN to spend New Years at my parents home. While I was getting dressed to go out that new years Brent asked my dad to show him his new car. I thought what is he doing that for, Brent could care less about a new car...whatever...it turned out he was asking my father for my hand.(awe)

Two minutes before midnight Brent gave me two pennies. He stated that when he was dragging all the pennies to storage he found two lucky pennies one of his birth year and one of mine. He then fumbled around saying oh wait here is a box to keep them safe in. He opened a ring box and said..."Long ago I collected pennies with no idea of what I was going to spend them on, when I met you it became clear what I had to buy with the pennies. These are the last two" We both cried, it was swell. After I said yes he asked do you still hate my penny collection? Well ah NO!
